Humanae Vitae was officially published in Sweden only in 2007. In comments to Vatican Radio at the news of its publication, Cardinal Arborelius called the encyclical “prophetic in many respects.” To those for whom Humanae Vitae has become a “red flag associated only with Paul VI’s rejection of artificial birth control,” he said: “take and read, ponder and pray. In our own time, people are beginning to respect nature and its order more and more. It would be very strange if this reverence for nature and its inherent beauty did not also apply to sexuality and reproduction.”
