Cardinal Bustillo told France3 in April 2024: “I think that we can’t say that they are of paramount importance regarding the transmission [of the faith] in particular and not give them any official role, it goes together. In my opinion, there is a risk with diaconal ordination, that is my personal opinion: (…) the risk of introducing a logic of power and not of authority. (…) The risk of giving diaconal or priestly ordination is that the priesthood or the diaconate will be seen not as a service but as a power.”
