Even before the Synods on the Family when this became a central topic of debate, Cardinal Hollerich had for decades allowed prayerful celebrations for divorced Catholics who civilly remarry. He supports the possibility of Communion for some divorced and “remarried” individuals under certain circumstances, following a process of discernment.
