Although Cardinal Ouellet took a distinctly different position on the issue before the publication of Amoris Laetitia, after its publication, he strongly defended it teaching and urged Catholics to reread the document carefully without prejudice. He considers the document to be official, normative, and a “remarkable result” of extensive consultation and discernment, and does not think it changes Church doctrine on marriage and family.
