Cardinal Erdő has stressed that civilly remarried Catholics can only receive Communion if they live in continence, meaning they abstain from sexual relations, in line with the teaching of Pope St. John Paul II. During the Synod on the Family at which he was relator general, Erdő issued a report stressing that any pastoral approach must not compromise the truth of marriage’s indissolubility.
