Cardinal Koch generally sought to avoid entering into the controversy over the Declaration Fiducia supplicans which gave permission for non-liturgical blessings of same-sex couples. He acknowledged that the declaration had caused problems with the Orthodox and said he thought it was important to “think again” about the issue in the context of ecumenical dialogue.
